Welcome to the Centre for Banking Studies
The Centre for Banking Studies is New Zealand's only educational resource dedicated to the teaching of banking studies. The Centre is part of Massey University, renowned as a leading provider of university-level distance education in New Zealand and is located on the Manawatu campus in Palmerston North. The first Professor of Banking was appointed at Massey University in 1978 and the Centre for Banking Studies was formally established in 1989. The Centre for Banking Studies' mission is to further the body of knowledge of banking practice. It aims to achieve this through fostering the improvement of education in banking, delivering teaching of banking subjects to a high standard, undertaking research in banking and related areas, providing informed analysis and commentary on banking matters and acting as a resource for the banking industry and other interested parties. During 1998, the Centre became part of the Department of Finance, Banking & Property within the College of Business. Martin Young is now the Head of the Department. The Centre still exists, however, with two full-time academic staff, both of whom have a background in banking as well as teaching.
